Hi all.

I just wanted to comment on the tv show "Grey's Anatomy". This is an AWESOME show! For the past 2 weeks and some, Peter and I have been 'catching up'.

We had never watched the show until now, but after my friends at work urged me on saying how much we'd like it, Peter went out and bought the season 1 dvd. Well, let me just say, from a medical perspective, this show ROCKS! The surgeries they perform are fresh, look convicingly real and are always creative.

What makes this show so good though IMHO, is the writing. We are now watching episode 18 of season 2 and the drama cannot be beat. Every show ends with a cry (yes, folks I do) because the situations seem so relatable - so real. One of the refreshing aspects I admire most in the writing of this show is the reality that things don't always end up the way we hope they will, people die, get hurt, relationships grow, and so too does my admiration for the show.

I feel like I am a part of the surgical unit at 'Seattle Grace Hospital' right there in the viewing room watching interns Meredith, Izzie, Cristina, Alex and George mature. The actors on this show, each and every one of them, so commendably play their parts as people like you and I, coping with life and riding the emotional roller coaster in every scene. This is what makes me such a fan, and I hope you will become one too.

Hey there, Lori,

I have to agree with you in all respects. This show has become my favorite and I was lucky enough to start viewing it from the beginning. I was hooked after the first episode aired.

One of the things I found most fascinating is that all the medical situations are based on actual people and proceedures that were performed. Some of them seem so bizzare you think they had to be made up. The writers must have had to do a lot of research to make them so believable despite the strangeness of some situations.

I do like that the show has a good balance of humor with that tear jerking drama. I was never much into medical shows after 'Dr. Kildare' left the screen but this one has me throwing an emotional tantrum everytime I miss an episode. Well... maybe not a tantrum but I sure hated missing them.

I didn't realize the first season was out on DVD. I'll have to put that on my wish list for whenever I can scrape up enough spare change.

My wife and I have watched the show since she visited my son in Chicago and he had her watch season 1 on DVD. At Thanksgiving last we were there and he had us watch most of season 2 on DVD, skipping about 1/3 of the episodes. So the wife and I saw everything this season since Thanksgiving, and have caught some earlier episodes in re-runs and through the Internet.

The show is good theatre, well done in terms of quality, and probably in writing, but it is not a good show, IMHO. In fact, I'm almost embarrassed to admit I watch it, what with all the immorality on it. What they portray on the show has almost nothing to do with most people's real lives. I don't know anyone who pops in and out of linen rooms getting laid. I don't know anyone who get into and out of multiple relationships or who hop into and out of multiple beds in less than a year (the first three seasons cover only one year). I don't know any group of doctors, interns or otherwise, nor any other professional people, who act like angst filled, hormone high teen-agers. Nor would, on average, any group of 5 about-thirtyish people have so many family deaths, injuries, illnesses, etc. in so short a time. And Bailey's kid had the shortest gestation period in human history.

The surgeries might possibly be realistic, but other aspects of hospital life are ridiculous as portrayed. In a hospital, 90 percent of patient care is handled by nurses and orderlies. No doctors wheel gurnies through hallways or are assigned to take samples to labs or fetch coffee for their elders. On this show they have shown exactly two nurses with speaking parts in all the episodes I've watched. One is the red-headed slut, and the other the older b-------. Not a dose of staff realism in the entire hospital scene.

So I look upon the show as a surrealist charicature of a hospital and staff. It is great entertainment for escaping, but it is in no way realistic.

That said, who thinks the Chief and Adele will get back together next season?

I suspect they'll get back together NDG, or is that just the cliff-hanger the show's writers want us to think? I am wondering what will happen to George too since he failed the exam and to Burke - has he really left?

Now that you mention it, I wasn't speaking about the sexual encounters (and boy, I can't think of one episode where there isn't someone sleeping with someone) - that part of the show is soooooo ridiculous and over-done and the spin-off soon to come with Addison. It is a soap in that sense, I mean really, you'd think they'd fall fast asleep after a 48 hour shift. :silly:
