Lori,
I just read this for the very first time. It is well done but to me, it seems more like a chapter in a novel than it does a short story. It starts off with the assumption that the reader has background information about Mada; I thought there should be more character development at the very beginning. For example, I liked this descriptive image and I would like to see more of this in your storyline: "Beads of sweat made a channel straight to his chin, sending a welcomed chill through his body" You have a lot going on with all of your gadgetry and high tech lingo that as a reader, you have to move a little slower to digest and assimilate much of this.
