Mosaic Musings...interactive poetry reviews _ ARCHIVES -> Poetry for Exhibition Prior to 2006 _ Aesop's "The Bear and the Two Travellers" restated

Posted by: jgdittier Jan 21 05, 18:32

Along the solitary path
through forest, field and stream,
an ursine beast of doubtful wrath
was guarding his regime.
Two guys on foot were hiking through
and soon the bear observed ,
so up a tree to hide from view
the first one climbed, unnerved.
The secong guy, too late to climb,
lay flat to fool that bear.
to imitate the dead, this time,
let bear return to lair.
The bear assumed the carrion case
and left with just a grunt.
The first came down from sylvan space,
the second now was blunt.
"Ex friend of mine, you've shone a sign
that me you'll fast desert.
Together we could climb that tree
with hand and quick alert!"

Hi Ron,

I'm not familiar with any of AEsop's fables but your poem tells an interesting tale. Thank you.

James.

Hello J~ wave.gif

This is a wonderful and whimsical poem with captivating alliteration!

I was drawn to this because one of my favorite books as a kid was.......you guessed it, Aesop's Fables.

PS I have many, but one of my favorites is the "Lion and the Mouse."

Thanks for bringing me back in time and reviving my moral fiber. cloud9.gif

Dear Lindi,
I can't say you've "inspired" this as I know it's not inspired, but it is dedicated to you.

He scampered back and forth across
the sleeping lion's carcass.
Now Leo's cross and he will toss
that mouse that sure did trespass.
That mouse now begged for "mercy please".
and swore to favor render.
Though mouse did tease, Leo'd appease,
that lion's heart was tender.
In years thereafter, Leo's caught
in heavy rope and netting.
But mouse knots sought, as well he ought
for there was no forgetting!

I hope you like this one, Lindi.
Cheers,    jgd

LOL! I have a nice book that the kids enjoy - I was wondering how many more you'll be turning into verse.

Dear Lindi,
I've got a couple dozen fable paras scattered over the internet but I'm such a goofball in computer knowledge my links usually give 404s.
If you'll read them I'll post all new fable paras here.
I'll watch for the net because I've no mouse friend.
Cheers,    jgd

ps- by "here" I mean in Plato's, not your thread

   -I've seen Cleo's guidence
