Hi all,

To make way for some new 'purchased' skins from Skin By Dragonfly, I'm going to delete some of our older skins that do not seem to in use, or are no longer supported with the latest version of IPB.

They include:
Black Crystal
Blue Star
Explicit Dimness
IBR Green
iMac
Magenta
Rustic
Sage
SubBlack
Webber
Zelda

I'll be adding some new ones very soon for the Winter and Holidays ahead.
Which skins do you use currently?

Stay tuned!

Frosty, Winter and Halloween Lite were added last weekend.

I'll be adding more new purchased skins today.

Enjoy!

Dear Cleo,

I changed skin to autumn harvest. It is fancy compared to my normal choice of simple with easy to read font on background.

Don

Posted by: Cleo_Serapis Nov 25 07, 10:39

Hi Don,

Yes - It's a bit graphic intensive.

I just loaded two more holiday skins, Rudolph and Silent Night, which are also graphically beautiful.

Rudolph (just made it the new board default) is a cute fun skin in traditional green and red colors, with cute "characters" populating throughout. A fun, festive skin, to get our members into that good old Christmas cheer. It will also come with a converter pack to convert the skin to 'regular use' early in 2008. Reindeer.gif

Silent Night is a beautiful richly textured skin that celebrates the true meaning of Christmas and features handmade original "3 wise men" and the Star of Bethlehem. This skin is perfect for anyone who would prefer to focus on the reason we have that celebration on the 25th of December. It will also come with a converter pack to convert the skin to a 'regular use' Christian Skin early in 2008. *Note: There is an 'error on page' when using IE7 - I reported it to Dragonfly support and will update when resolved - it seems to work fine irregardless and does not produce the error using Firefox. shepherd.gif

I am going to load up the 3rd new holiday skin in a few minutes called "Holiday Lite" that should be much better on the loading factor. It's a slippery quick, different, modern design that is slick and stylish for the Holiday Season. This great skin is no resource hog, is super fast loading, and perfect for those who prefer low key simpler style skins to lots of graphics, or in other words "Hold the Cheeez"! magictongue.png

The Silent Night skin error is now fixed - one line of code removed and voila - all set! pcgal.gif

Tee hee, ah Don, not exactly - I've been tinkering with these forums since MM opened in 2003, but I confess, the coder actually found the line of code after I sent her a bug report earlier today saying something wasn't quite right. All's well now! grinning.gif

Hi Cleo,

Your touch of adding skins is akin to adding decorations to and rearranging them on a Christmas tree for ideal appeal.

Don

Posted by: Cleo_Serapis Dec 25 07, 14:03

Hi Don. wave.gif

Thanks so much! I'm not certain the percentage of members who vary the skins, but I can tell you, I definitely DO! I like to change it up every now and then, keeps from boredom. magictongue.png

I just added a funky new one from the Invisionize.com community skin competition called Nighttime.

Enjoy!

Hello all,

There are 8 skins that have upgrades I am performing over the next few hours. So, if you see them being deleted, do not worry - I'm just ridding the old and then adding the new ones back. As I upgrade each, please note that I also add some personilized graphics and hacks as I go, so each skin takes about 15-20 minutes to complete.

I'll reply again when they're all set. The skins are:

Christmas - completed

Club - completed

Dark Techno Acid - competed

Dark Techno Electric - competed

Driftwood - competed

Frosty - competed

Reflections Blue - competed

Winter - competed

~Cleo pcgal.gif

The details on the changes I make to each skin (Lori's checklist):
1. Logo Graphic
2. Board Footer HTML (references)
3. Global Board Header Edits - bookstore/ibpc/chat/ links
4. Render Forum Row on Forum Index (hack adds start date to topic starter)
5. Replace default post icon images
6. Add staff and mod graphics
7. Increase text area post size from 11px to 13px in the CSS

Thanks for the forewarning Cleo. As heaven would have it the skin I am using is not on your update list above.

Don

Posted by: Cleo_Serapis Jan 13 08, 09:40

Hey Don,

Which skin are you currently using?

Posted by: Don Jan 13 08, 09:57

I am currently using Autumn Harvest. Be aware that I seldom ring the bells or blow the whistles. While on this subject, I wish to congratulate you for your personal taste in colors and graphic organization.

Thank you! cloud9.gif

I like that one too Don. It was the first one I purchased from thatwebsite, SBD (skin by Dragonfly) and now I've been adding all these others from her forum as well (did a 6 mo. special membership that allows me to download any skin for a one-time $90 fee). Once the subscription ends though, I'll have to renew or will not be eligible for any further upgrades to those particular skins...

Posted by: Don Jan 13 08, 10:30

Dear Cleo,

Knowing I would have to shell out more to maintain initial purchase would save the initial price. Most of us know the trend is to extract a periodic rental fee for product or service. I liked it better when we paid up front and prayed for product durability.

Most of us also know that planned obsolecence is profit. Most of my application programs are dinosaurs like MicroSoft Word 2000, and a checkbook software that ceases support every three annual revision updates. Professional softwares expect hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars for annual revisions.

If and when MM pulls back to basics for sensible economy, I will not be chagrined to give up the pleasure of Autumn Harvest skin.

Thank you for being among those paying the piper to allow mooches, such as myself, to partake.

Don

Posted by: Cleo_Serapis Jan 13 08, 10:46

Yes, I can see how that could add up to quite a profit! This is a special membership, which basically entitiles me to download any skin package on site (with 2 exceptions, the i-tab ones) and use them on MM. Once the subscription ends, there will be no more support on the 'free skins' I downloaded, is how it boils down.

Not all is lost! For the skins I purchased beforehand, the support continues for as long as MM is up and running. The skins in that bucket are conveniently Autumn Harvest, Antiquity, Frosty, Winter and Halloween Lite.

Posted by: Don Jan 13 08, 10:51

I shall endeavor to remember Halloween Lite as a whistle to blow this coming spook season.

You can see that I am not immune to ringing some bells sometimes.

TWO new skins have been added today specifically for the Christmas season, and a third for alll year round.

The first is called Xmas No Tab and is graphically a 'copy' of the other new one, titled I-Tab Xmas. The I-Tab Xmas skin is a different spin on how the categories are viewed on the page. There are tabs across the top and once you've clicked on a category's tab, the sub forums will display for that category to you. Also the pull down menus are evident for member and community links (upper right).

These are very cool skins and I got a great deal on the purchase price (normally the I_Tab skins are $50 each, but I got the 3 pack for $20 last night) - the third skin that came with the purchase is called I-Tab BlueSteel, uses the same color scheme as I-Tab Xmas and is another I-Tab version skin. I'll load that one later.

Enjoy!
~Cleo hsdance.gif

NB: I-Tab BlueSteel has been added to the skin selector.

I've just received the following e-mail from our friends at Skin by Dragonfly:

QUOTE
Dear Skin by Dragonfly Customers,

Many of you will be aware that I have spent the last 7 years or so devoted to creating beautiful skins for Invision Power Board. During this time I have seen the product grow from a small free script, to raise to become the premium commercial Community Software product of today.
Jeff and I have been there since 1.1.1 and have been witness to the highs and lows. Along this path there have been many joys and quite a lot of heartaches and sorrows, and everything in between. Through it all SbyD has solidly plodded along creating new product, and supporting our loyal members through multiple upgrades and many many versions of the software, often in the face of adversity including; design thieves, con artists, fraudsters, hackers, crackers and rippers, but through it all SbyD has persevered and maintained a high standard of quality product and support.

As such, this is a very hard decision, but, after extensive thought and consultation, it is with much sadness that I have to advise that we feel at this point SbyD is no longer able to continue with IPB pre-made skins. The upgrade path over the last 18 months has been such that we are already struggling to even get our heads above water, and that coupled with the now huge size of the product and accompanying add ons makes each individual skin upgrade a massive task.

Additionally the IPB skin market has all but collapsed over the last 2 years, which means it is no longer viable to continue to spend months and months upgrading skins… with the prospect of 3.2 and the interim (weekly!) upgrades before we even get to 3.2, it is time to give notice that we cannot continue.

We will be upgrading our existing 3.1 skins to 3.1.3 and are committed to upgrading the Holiday skins for Christmas 2010. However we will not be upgrading any of the existing skins beyond this point, and we will not be creating any further pre-made skins for IPB at all.

Skin by Dragonfly will continue to offer Custom IPB services, however we will no longer be offering pre-made skins at all from January 2011.

I would like to stress we have no “beef” with Invision Power Services, and thank them for their kindness and support over the years. We wish Matt and the team all the very best going forward. We just can’t keep up with where they are going.

Lori,
In essence, what effect does it have for M. M.?
JLY

Posted by: Cleo_Serapis Oct 29 10, 08:46

Hi John,

It has no effect at MM as I didn't upgrade our forum software to version 3.1.x as I frankly just don't like the look of it. I was also able to save the $50 annual support fee as well (July) by NOT upgrading.

Cheers,
~Cleo
