''A SHORT STORY,'' by Cleo Serapis

Once upon a time there was a young girl named Cleo.  Cleo was 8 years old and lived in Avaris, Egypt.  While walking home from school one day, a cerulean cat jumped out from behind a Scarab beetle and tackled Cleo to the ground.  But just when she was about to let out a scream for help, Cleo realized that the cerulean cat was only licking her face, not trying to bite it off.

At that moment, Cleo decided to keep the cerulean cat as a pet.  And on the way home she decided to name her pet cerulean cat ''Imhotep.''  When Cleo and her new pet finally got home, guess who was standing on the front porch?  That's right, it was Cleo's mother, Isis.  And boy was she surprised to see a cerulean cat following Cleo into the yard!

''What in world is that?'' shouted Isis.

''It's a cerulean cat,'' answered Cleo.

''Dah, I can see that, Cleo, but what on earth is it doing here?'' said Isis.

''It's my new pet!'' answered Cleo.

''Oh you think so do you?'' remarked Isis.  ''I wouldn't get your hopes up. You know how your father hates cerulean cats.  But, well, I suppose you can keep him until your father comes home.''  And with that Cleo grabbed Imhotep by the scruff of the neck and led her new pet into the house--even though she knew her father was probably going to dissaprove.

Once in the house, Cleo and Imhotep played and played, that is until Cleo's favorite television show, ''Stargate SG-1,'' started.  At that point Cleo forgot all about Imhotep having an unsupervised run of the house.  That is until half way through ''Stargate SG-1,'' when Cleo was brought back to reality when she heard her father shout, ''By the Gods Graces!!  Cleo! Get your posterior in the dining room...NOW!!''

With that Cleo rushed into the dining room to see what all the fuss was about.  When she entered the dining room, there stood her father, Rameses, pointing toward the chaise.  ''Will someone please explain that?'' asked her father.  Then, as Cleo followed her father's finger to where it was pointing, she instantly knew what her father was so upset about.  There, smack dab in the middle of the chaise, was the biggest pile of cat doo-doo she had ever seen!

''I don't EVEN want to know how that got there,'' said Rameses.  ''But you had better get it cleaned up now!  And you had better get rid of whatever it is that could have done such a thing!''

Well, knowing her father as well as she did, Cleo knew there was no sense even asking her father if she could keep Imhotep for a pet.  So without hesitation, Cleo set out to find where Imhotep was hiding.

After a few minutes of looking, Cleo discovered Imhotep crouched beneath the table that Cleo did her writing on.  ''Come on, Imhotep, it's time to find you a new home.  And hey, don't look at me that way, I'm not the one who did the dirty deed on the chaise!'' scolded Cleo.  ''Thanks to you I'll never get to have my own pet cat!!"

And with that Cleo led Imhotep out of the house and down to the local clothier.  They had a pet section and Cleo knew the owner would find Imhotep a good home.  So after saying good-bye to Imhotep, and thanking the owner of clothier, Cleo walked backed home and attempted to dround her sorrows by slamming down a half dozen Wines.  But Cleo's pitty party came to an abrupt end when her father reminded her about the mess she had neglected to clean up.  And low and behold, midway through the clean-up, Cleo suddenly became thankful that someone else was going to have to do it from now on.

The End.

The most worrying thing there is the image of an 8 year old 'slamming down a half dozen Wines', other than that and a couple of typos it's quite good; wonder who or what collates and extrapolates the data? Wouldn't post it for critique though, what's that, just for devilment? Oh, go on then, writersblock.gif

LOL.gif Jim - I forgot about this little experiment. I'll be back again once I've read it over and may even try another...
