Greetings,
Looks like one of the two hard drives in the server has failed. Thankfully we have two identical copies of everything (the RAID mirror we set up when the new machine was installed) so there's no operational difference except for a little bit there's no automatic redundency in the gear. The sytem still copies itself off to the backup box every 12 hours so if the one drive that's still there fails we won't lose more than 12 hours of posts.
I've ordered a new drive and it will be here sometime tomorrow, 2/1/11 (hopefully before the big snowstorm..) and once it's here I'll start the process of rebuilding the RAID mirror (usually takes a couple of hours). It's a background, automated process that won't cause any outages, but the system may seem a little slow while all the data is copied over. I'll update this thread when I start the process and when it's over.
Sorry for any inconvenience,
I
Geez... sounds like a big job to this techno inexperienced person. It's simply mind-boggling to learn what goes on behind the scenes; i.e., YOUR WORK!!!
Thanks a lot for keeping us up-dated, Peter, and I think I might just knock you on the head if you keep apologizing for these glitches in the system and any inconveniences we might experience!
Good luck & tx,
Syl***
Hi Peter,
Thanks for this and so sorry it failed, and the extra work and expense you need to put into it. We are grateful!!!
Good luck! I'm workingfrom home today (and most likely tomorrow). Another 20 inches of snow coming and no where to put it!
Cheers

Hey all,
Just to update, I guess the equipment was shipping from Ohio which is where all the snow was coming from in the first place... So nope, didn't get here yesterday and doesn't look like it's going to arrive today. Not the end of the world tho, in the unlikely event something happens to the remaining drive I've still got the other 12-hour (midnight and noon for those who are interested) backup and a way to bring up a temporary system until permanent repairs can be made if neccessary.
I'll keep updating things as I get information,
Keep warm!

I'm so glad for your faithful work behind the scenes!
The unsung hero....
whom I'd sing if anyone would be interested!
deLighting in your unselfishness, Daniel
Thanks Peter!
So much work going on in the background! Thank you Peter.

Heyo.
Just to close the loop here, I've successfully installed the new drive and overnight it copied all the data over so everything's back to normal now.
Take care!

Excellent!
Thanks so much Peter!
I got your email about the oogle reCaptcha thing too. I'll test that now and get back to ya!
Cheers,
~Cleo
