Flower- and Pollen-Gathering Time

Where your face burns and tickles, friends may say,
"The woods are lovely, and the shade of trees
is filled with hues, though nothing gold can stay."
(Your allergies won't go till there's a freeze!)

A small bird flew just then to wash the steps
ahead while you bent in the undergrowth
to rid yourself of the great harvest. Strep
is on your mind from doctors' foolish sloth.

You dare not tell your plight to these who share
your place among the infinities; some opine
the world's a better place with silent prayer.
Your time to be with nature's in decline.

One luminary clock has said you've had
that flower-gathering time; no moment's sad.

Robert Frost snippets used, in order of appearance:

Where your face burns and tickles
The woods are lovely
and the shade of trees
Nothing gold can stay
A small bird flew
To wash the steps
bent in the undergrowth
Of the great harvest
our place among the infinities
Some say the world
One luminary clock
had that flower

Bravo Daniel,

Glad to see you joining in the fun. I guess you read Lori's post above yours suggesting Eric also post his piece
in the challenge forum: Robert Frost Snippet Challenge.

I did enjoy your tongue in cheek bit about some of the more onerous thing which summer brings; allergies for one.
Never having had to worry about that myself, I just see others suffer.

Congratulations on using all twelve snippets. Well Done!

Larry

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

Hi JD,
I shall echo Larry's reply above. Enjoyed your use of the snips.

Your bird line reminded me of the blackbird nesting in my pine tree (everything with needles is a pine tree for me). The parent birds took the young's droppings to keep the nest tidy, and the best place to drop those was right smack on my truck. Durn critters! This year the truck is in the garage so they be-splattered the roadway at the end of my driveway - not so bad. Luckily I don't have steps.

Keep em coming!

Well done, Daniel! claps.gif

I did have to chuckle as I am dealing with the inevitable autumn blahs - chest coldish kind of thing.

These snippets are tough to fit metrically - and I enjoyed the read! Read.gif

Cheers!

Hi Daniel,

Its so good to see new posts in this forum. You have done a splendid job of using the snippets here. I love the informal tone of this and the way you've brought in ailments that affect so many. I have really enjoyed reading this.
