Wise Men

They tapped the trees to harvest myrrh
and simmered berries for the seed
to render frankincense. They were
to travel far and with great speed;

so wrapped in woolen robes they went
to bow before a new-born King.
They followed stellar ornament
with rarest gifts which they might bring

to One; the Child, prophets foretold.
No emerald studded crowns were worn
to show the status each now holds.
No scent of cinnamon was bourn

upon the winds where angels flew
and sang that prophecies were true.

words used: tap(ped), simmer, berr(ies), wrap(ped), bow, ornament, emerald, scent, cinnamon, sang

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Well-done, thou turner of the ten
to focus them to tell a tale
of truth and glory and three men
who come to worship and exhale.

Worship excelled with those who came
to praise the Babe that Winter’s eve
but fooling Pharaoh won them fame
with misdirection to deceive.

Sometimes, lying is a good thing.

You're right; sometimes it's good to lie,
and often where no one can see.
Late-night, where there's no private eye
you hug your bed and let it be.

Just hug your bed and let it be
when she is in that “don’t touch” mood
of feigned female hostility;
say “goodnight babe” and don’t be rude.

It’s Valentine’s tomorrow morn
so plan a very special date
with gold and diamonds to adorn
or maybe lobster on a plate.

No matter what you plan to do;
it only happen once a year
so make a memory or two
with words like, “I love you, my dear!”

Whatever you might do or say
it's best to love her every day.

I love her every day, my friend,
but I miss you, if that's okay.
Please know I'll love her to the end
but she and daughter are away
with grandkids at nearby motel
so they can swim and have some fun
so I am batching, doing well...
today I haven't seen the sun.

Perhaps I'd better get outside;
I think my mood is turning blue.
I've haven't seen the gym today
or shopped. Perhaps I'll take a ride.
Remember, I am missing you!
I hope you'll visit soon... then stay!
