The master of the meter may make it his mein
to manage this manner of verse.
To skip to the "dum"s with the "da"s in between
may surely require it be terse.

As beats be on words that are best far apart,
essentially long be each step.
I'm taxing my brain while I stifle my heart,
so light it must be, also hep!

I am just a "Bick" with an "Anna" to boot.
My Anna has proven a pest.
As who is to blame for this verse now is moot.
This dittier passes the test.

Ron,

Perhaps one day I shall grasp meter and sort my baDUMs out. In the meantime, I shall just enjoy the skill of others.  cheer.gif

Hi Ron,

You lost me with Anna and Bick - are they distinct names or sounds or one word split or...?

Did I understand you to say (verse 2) that constructing such poems is a mental, rather than emotional, exercise? (Head / heart). So, for you, is writing poetry a cerebal puzzle? An intellectual jigsaw?

Just me struggling to understand.

Thanks in anticipation of any enLightment.

Yours, trudging heavily James.

(sorry Daniel, couldn't resist!)

Dear Jox,
Imagine that you are Edgar Guest, Marriot Edgar, or Dr. Suess.
Would verse writing be a mechanical or emotional exercize?
Somewhere at MM I differentiated poetry from verse and I think as a verse writer, there is much more manipulation of words than when emotion dictates a message.
Most of my verse goes where it chooses after I form its shape and push it off with the first lines. It is not written from inspiration.
As to Bick and Anna, I was just attempting a piece in mixed iamBIC and ANNApest feet.
Cheers,    jgd
