SENILITY
Time stands still in your gaze:
you survive in a descending spiral,
searching for preterit instants
in mnemonic pathways.
Your eyes don’t see the world
but shadows.
Your mind transmutes love in phantoms
without farewells.
Dementia, like the blind worm,
slides through tunnels in live matter.
Is your yoke easy? Your burden, light?
You don’t answer now.
With a child’s rucksack on an old man’s loins,
packed with recondite images of yesterdays,
you seek an outlet to the sea.
Destiny is Amphitrite with a child in arms.
Goddess of the Ocean,
she breastfeeds creatures
adrift in embryonic waters.
Return to cool green depths!
You shall have peace.

Thank you for your entry into Odin's Opposition Sylvia!
Perhaps you'll rise up, drink from the Well of Wisdom and be crowned the 'bringer of victory'?
Best of luck in the battle!

Congratulations Sylvia on your Silver placement!
You have risen up, drank from the Well of Wisdom and have been crowned the ‘bringer of victory’!
Well done!
Oh my, what a nice surprise for my weekend! It's strange to re-read a poem written a couple of years ago. I keep wanting to make one little tweak, because I'm never ever satisfied with my stuff.
I'd like to pick that final 's' off 'yesterdays', but I suppose it's not allowed....
Anyway, thank you and cheers to all!!

A belated THANK YOU for your kind words, Liz!
