Here are the guidelines for their annual War Poetry Contest. This contest seeks today's best poems on the theme of war. The submission period for our 2005 contest is November 15, 2004 - May 31, 2005. We will award $3,000 in prizes, up from $2,250 in 2004. Read the 2004 winning entries.
What to Submit:
1-3 original, unpublished poems on the theme of war. Their combined length should not exceed 500 lines.

Welcome to the second annual Margaret Reid Poetry Contest sponsored by Tom Howard Books. This contest seeks poems in traditional verse forms. First prize is US$1,000. A total of US$2,000 in prizes will be awarded. Winning entries will be published. Writers of all nations may enter. Entries should be submitted online or postmarked by June 30, 2005.
What are traditional verse forms? By traditional verse, we mean poems that use a metrical or formal structure, such as sonnets, ballads, odes, blank verse and haiku.
The winners will be announced here in August. First prize is $1,000. Second prize: $400. Third prize: $200. There will also be four Encouragement Awards of $100 each. All prizewinners will be published in an anthology, and all winners will receive a free copy of the anthology. John H. Reid will judge the contest.
