WELCOME TO MM FLASH JAM No. 101
Hosted by Cleo_Serapis (Lori) galadriel.gif

Hi,

If you are familiar with flashing at MM please scroll down to the blue text. If not, kindly read from here:

Please only read this when you are ready to start.

The idea of flash-writing is to access the creative side of the brain; to break mental barriers and to experiment - or to simply break writer’s block.

Although there are no rules per se for writing these flashes, to join in the spirit of the exercise, please do not read anyone else’s before writing your own. Also, spend no more than the time "limit" (given below - or thirty minutes if none shown) on your flash. However, no one is checking and there are no prizes to be had - this is very informal and flexible.

You can type directly onto an MM text-input screen (not recommended - people lose work sometimes) or off-line in a word-processor (recommended) then copy/paste.

Within the time, do as you wish - write, check, edit. However, the general idea is to stimulate an immediate response, so it would be very surprising if any flashes were polished works. If you wish to later take your flash and to polish it / enter it for crit, please do so.

Responses can be in the form of prose, poetry or a mixture of the two. All forms of writing are welcome.

We would like you to post your response...

To do so, please post it in this forum (The Acropolis) as a NEW TOPIC with the title “MM Flash Number - (your member name)”, e.g. "MM Flash 101 ~ Cleo". If your writing has a title of its own, please type that above the flash itself within its tile (and as the sub-title if you wish). Subject to the comments below, please post straight after writing it, if you can.

Sometimes flashes just do not “work“ or the result may not comply with MM’s posting requirements - or the response might be intensely personal. If you are in doubt, or feel uncomfortable, you do not have to post - or may prefer to delay whilst you consider. If you are uncertain, please feel free to contact a member of the staff by clicking the "the moderating team" link to send a PM (located in the board stats section on the index page).

After flashing please take a look at what others have written and leave some comments. (Though, as these are not finished pieces, "crits" as such are not invited.)

Please could all responses be posted by: Wednesday, 4 November, 2015. If you don't have time you can still post after this date and time as well. This time is only set so we can quickly all read all flashes, comment and learn from each other. This is not a rule, nor deadline. If you cannot post until later, please still post anyway.

Participation in this session does not rely on having taken part in a previous session. The more, the merrier, as the saying goes.

================================================================

Hello. Welcome to MM Flash No. 101!

Before you read any further, please ensure you have thirty to forty-five minutes of uninterrupted time available and aim to spend no more than that on your Flash. (If you over-run, do not worry, though). Kindly state the time taken and number of words employed under your post. Thank you.

It all began when a silversmith found an hidden tunnel with the help of a knight, a peddler, and an expert archer.

Please start writing now…

Wow....this was way out of my comfort zone...but since I'm so very rusty these days, it seemed a good place to start....

I'd let that buckthorn grow
buried myself in it
while the wound healed,
and as often is, wall became nest.
His expert shot had hit true,
my naive chest. I thought
the pain had made me shrewd,
but fear's its own clever mask.
Luckily, even buckthorn has berries
to draw one in, or the friend-
the jolly desperate one- had had one
too many when he'd tried to sell
me a locket for another round. My guard down,
I laughed as the other- tall and determined
tried to stand straight and rescue me,
or the locket, which belonged to neither.
I felt some branches breaking free
as I bought the round despite myself,
and found myself facing its owner.
The sadness in his smiling eyes
flit gently through my thorns, the locket
he'd made had been returned and now
it burned on his scarring heart.
Wound called to wound, I gave
enough for him to risk the thorns,
he crawled through that sacred space,
now a nest for two.
