The night was dark, in pale twilight lit,
although the moon was full, all but a small bit
was obscured by cloud, and one would strive
to see their way, but then the night came alive
with the sound of horses, and the tramp of feet
as men in measured pace, came down the street!
Some folks were quick to grasp what was taking place,
whilst others confused, watched with ashen face
most of the more timid inhabitants were seen
to cringe behind drapes drawn tight. A scene
that caused some to cry out - terror struck!
Knowing the foreign invaders, would run amuck,
as they terrorised with sword and fearsome cries!
Their arrival, was unseen under the violet skies
of stormy clouds, whilst the loud hum of wind
rising to a shriek, as they had earlier determined,
had muffled the noise of the Legion that came
to subjugate. and wider spread Rome’s fame!

Rhymer, December 9th, 2016.

Words used in order: pale, twilight, strive,
horses, tramp pace, grasp, cringe, violet, hum.

Hi Psyche and thanks again.

I'm not sure if I enter my poems in answer to a Challenge, correctly? The titles of my poems, are what I give them.

As I'm so late in picking up the gauntlet. perhaps they should have been posted elsewhere?

As I mentioned in my other reply, I delved into the MM Archives - whew! What a lot there are! When I get time, I hope to find even more as I do find these ten word Challenges, interesting and they certainly get ones little grey cells working hard! It's a good way to keep thinking sanely!

I truly enjoyed the 'clichés' which lent themselves to a train of thought I immediately grabbed.

I've been working on the Shakespeare - my "idol" snippets and hope to post a finished poem later.

Hope you manage to get a few more poets returning soon. Pleased to hear the monitoring task should be halved with the return of Eira. I believe she was a Monitor?

Fondest regards. Denis aka Rhymer.
