again the circle's drawing near to full
frail shrunken withered being lying there
within herself first felt the fetal pull
as one we were till birthed in light and air

and now my turn to feed the one who fed
and now my turn to lift who first held me
and now my turn to lead the one's who led
as spiral time and life as needs-must be

Hello Michael in Brooklyn, wave.gif

What a fascinating poem! Read.gif

In yourfirst stanza, I enjoy how you describe life coming full circle. The description of mother feeling that first pull and the unity/bond of mother and infant is spectacular. In S2, I can almost taste the responsibility in your words of now the narrator becoming the 'parent' and the change of hands.

Well done!
Enjoyed the read.

Thanks Clio for the read and the response - much appreciated.
As we age and take on roles of parents to our parents life
seems quite different and requires much adjustment.

Mike, an interesting perspective of the cycle of life, I guess I was lucky in never that sort of duties with my parents. Although I now see it in my own children in their care for me.

Hi Mike

This is a very moving read for me, bringing back memories of my own mother, who had Alzheimer's. It does indeed take some adjusting to being 'parent to the parent'. It's part of my life that I still struggle to come to terms with even though my mother passed away 3 years ago.

You have expressed your emotions very well and I look forward to reading more of your work.

Thanks for sharing

So nice to meet you Steve and Eira - and thanks much
for reading and commenting.
When my mother had a heart attack and was unable to care for my
multi-farc dementia affected father I went to Florida (where else)
and lived and cared for my father for 6 months - the hardest and yet most meaningful
experience of my life.
Hope to be reading and commenting on your works too.

Hello Mike,

Such a deeply passionate poem with so much emotion! Your words ring true as we reverse roles in life, especially as our dear parents age.
I believe, as hard as it may be, that is what a good daughter or son does!

Very touching and genuine.
Thank you for sharing.
