Hi all,
I wanted to let everyone know why it's taking so long to post the winner of the 4th annual MMHC.
As the Sollars family donates the prize each year, our arrangement is that they choose the winner, a simple and fair one we believe. However, this year has brought challenges in that while I did receive the prize money at Christmastime, I have been unsuccessful in getting a response to my emails and snailmails requesting they choose the winner from the 7 finalists.
Turnup's Christmas Card
The Passing of Blasphemous Bill
Treehugger Santa
To Christmas Given
The Gift of Song
Merlin Sees Red
Believe
Since it is now March and we are WAY OVERDUE on the announcement, I've made the decision to have the staff poll for the winner in the Sollars' absence as well as having a poll where the members voice their top choice and then we will combine results.
Please do cast your vote right now while you're already reading this thread.
~Cleo
P.S. I've gone ahead and moved the non-finalists entries into the archive forum, Halls of Montezuma.
Lori,
A total membership wide poll is fine with me if you wish to go in that direction, however, you would need to set a firm date for all votes to be registered.
JLY
Thanks John!
I've just posted the poll in thisthread and will close it end of day this Thursday, 3/27.
Best of luck!
~Cleo
Lori,
Thank you.
JLY
Seeking more votes please...
Dear me, only 10 votes!!! What a shame, there are some great poems there....very much worth reading! Take my word for it, folks...
Hugs to all, members & staff alike,
Syl ***
Voted!
Regards to all
Jax
Ah thank you, thank you!
Thanks to all who have voted! I will be posting in the additional votes made by our staff to add to the tally above in this reply a bit later. I'll be keeping this poll open through end of day today and will post the final numbers.
Cheers,
~Cleo
Lori,
Thank you for your efforts in this matter.
JLY
I'll second that JLY, it takes such energy to keep a board alive! AND when there are the odd hiccups it is more difficult!
Bev
Yes, and I'll third that, Lori dear. This sort of glitch is especially hard to deal with, since you haven't heard anything from the sponsors. I hope they're all right.
BTW, I haven't heard from Don, either, for ages. I sent him an e.mail and got no reply, which is mighty unusual with him. He used to be very busy in the forums, seemed to highly enjoy MM. There was a lot of bantering going on...
Good luck & thanks,
Sylvia ***

WOW! I'm flattered and a bit surprised; I'm not overly comfortable being the winner, as in the first two MMHC contests I wouldn't allow my postings to count since I admin the site.
What are your thoughts please?
~Cleo
Congratulations Lori!
Take the glory and run! (I say!) The tribe has voted! - as they say on Survivor!
Bev
I agree - bask in the glory, Lori. It's been a fair vote. Well done - and very much deserved!
Snow
Hi All,
I didn't vote because I don't.
As to the results - the majority has spoken, so let it be. Going back to when the contest was active (!), my thoughts were these >> should I come up a winner, it would have been my request to leave the prize as a token of operating expenses of MM. Let the winner use it as seen fit.
No need for a run-off, not from this direction.
Merlin
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
by-the-by,
you don't see much of me anywhere. Recently I had a real bout with a virus, and it still lingers. I'm more than 99% back on solid footing, but there are these strange reminders that something is still lurking, like congestion for example. It may be co-incidental, but the muse seems to have left me completely. I'm in total dry-dock, and it has me wondering if there's anything left in me re the writing field. Perhaps I'm writ-out, or a write-off, dunno.
I'll continue to lie low until things change, and work on unfinished projects like my manual and other things. Also, book 2 could use some input again.
Fair winds to all,
Merlin
Thanks Bev and Snow. Eric - so that's where ya been hidin'?
I've been polishing up some older works since my muse has had the flu (and I can relate to an on-going sinus problem). I appreciate your thoughts and like Eric, I'll leave the prize in the MM bank account, but will gladly take the mini-plaque for my sig. Yay!
Always a pleasure, all!
~Cleo
CONGRATS, LORI!!! A well-deserved prize, the verdict is out, so don't be a blushing rose. Accept with your graceful head UP, like a queen...
As far as donating the prize to MM's mini-bank, I don't know enough about the workings of this website to give a knowledgeable opinion. I have no idea whether you have rich sponsors or receive fat donations.
But I DO know that you work non-stop and give enormous, precious energy to MM. We're talking about personal 'worth' here, body & soul, not dirty, stinky money...LOL....
So I would be the first to celebrate if you were to tell us that you rushed out and bought yourself some favourite item, or had your hair done, or picked THAT book you've always wanted... whatever!!! Or did something romantic & original (don't know how far 50 dollars would go....).
Big hugs & congrats,
Syl ***
Hi Merlin!
I've really missed you in the forums. You're a treasure hove of poetry info, so I hope that you'll continue to drop by while your muse is on holiday. Give us all some really hard kicks in the pants!!!
SO sorry about that horrid virus. I hope you're feeling a lot better by now. I've noticed that since I vaccinate myself yearly against the 'flu, whenever I take to my bed with colds, coughs, fevers or whatever, the docs say that I caught a 'virus'.... Well, what will be, will be. New terms for old ailments, is my guess.
All the best, take care,
cheers, Syl ***
Dear Lori;
First, CONGRATULATIONS ! ! !
Then ... thanks for all the work you put into this and everything else at MM. This was a contest of poems, not persons. The voting was clear and fair. I'm ever so happy for the consideration I recieved and even more happy that the best poem (as chosen) won.
blessings
Sam
Thanks so much Sylvia and Sam!
If I do cash the check in, I'll be sure and let you know what I purchased, LOL! Sam, I contemplated giving the money to you as second place finisher - I enjoyed both your entries, as I did all of them. It was a very tough one to vote on (as always).
Thanks again! Happy Spring!
~Lori
