BEWITCHED
Hummingbirds flirted with Autumn flowers.
Intoxicated with the fragrance
of all the roses in the world,
I basked in the radiance
of lovers' kisses under bowers,
watched fall air quiver
as a butterfly unfurled
its wings on my bare chest.
I hungered for you.
Picking blades of grass beside a river
where I chose to rest,
I licked ripples off your naked skin,
surfed unimagined heights
on our together nights.
Yet, when we meet in the fall,
will I have forgotten your love call
amongst those whistling reeds
and the vibration of infinite cords?
I know that fading willow-trees
will invite me to tarry awhile,
I'll answer to bewitching smiles
in that cool shade beyond,
where nymphs trace curves
on the surface of serene ponds.
Yet Summer fled... Autumn moon !
I grow old. I might loose my way
among sensuous forms of noon
that transcend both you and me.
I might chase moonbeams
that beckon from peaks of mountains.
The essence of my life will be a dream.
No. I shall drink only from your fountain
because one day it will lead me to the ocean.
I'll sing to you with exalted heart,
pursue your teasing lips, impulsive feet,
set the whole universe in motion.
Yet now, until the last breath of Summer departs,
I shall rest on the banks of this mossy creek.

Hi Sylvia!
May we add to our Autumn book too please?
I like these lines - sums up the feelings well!
The essence of my life will be a dream.
No. I shall drink only from your fountain
because one day it will lead me to the ocean.
I'll sing to you with exalted heart,
pursue your teasing lips, impulsive feet,
set the whole universe in motion.
Nicely done! :)

Hi Psyche,
Another of your picturesque pieces, but no gusts or bluster this time. Phew! This one presents both passion and pasture and is very enjoyable. I can hear the narrator’s voice speaking her inner thoughts. It could be a he, but I can’t see it that way!
I enjoyed the beginning of it -
Hummingbirds flirted with Autumn flowers.
Intoxicated with the fragrance
of all the roses in the world,
I basked in the radiance
of lovers' kisses under bowers,
watched fall air quiver
as a butterfly unfurled
And the soul searching ending – the portion Cleo highlighted.
Thanks for sharing. :)
