Quintine

This poetic form is a syllable-counting form (like haiku, senryu, tanka, sijo, etc). There are no restrictions on subject matter nor is there a rhyme scheme. It is a five line poem with the following syllable structure:
L1 - 1 syllable
L2 - 3 syllables
L3 - 5 syllables
L4 - 7 syllables
L5 - 9 syllables

Here is one of mine (3 stanzas)

Gently Bow (A "love" poem in Quintines)

I
was fetal
warmed within the folds
of sunlit dunes of grandeur.
I chased the curls of unlocked essence.

I'm
viewed smaller
than grains transparent,
telescoped, inward and still,
balancing on floods of emotions.

From
Ararat,
I'll try sun- bathing.
Sending forth this bird of peace,
I'll gently bow and apply sun-block.

Hmmmm.... not much info out there, it seems! Can you give us a link to an original source, Norm?

Just think…

Grace
gives to us
what we don’t deserve;
mercy withholds what we do….
Be careful when you plead for justice.

Green Grace

Grass
flourishes
like the days of man
till hot wind passes over….
their place acknowledges them no more;
but the loving-kindness of the Lord
on those who hold Him in awe
is renewed daily
to remain
green.

Daniel,

I like your quinitine efforts.

I was also very hard-pressed to find any valuable information on the Internet regarding the Quintine poetic form. At the end of my remarks here are the only three links that have content on the Quintine -- and no real in-depth history of the form itself.

Suffice it to say --- it really is a form. The best resource I have = my lesson plans from 1968 ~smile~.

BTW --- a Quintina is a reverse-Quintine (which you actually used in your final one posted here in this thread.

Daniel --- I still think I might have a few more forms in my notes that you haven't tried yet LOL.

Links (though weak) >> there were a few others that were poetry forums like MM and PT but thought it best not to simply reference other sites:

thanks.gif Norm for posting this form.

I was going to post two (like a Mirror Cinquain) as well as Daniel as done but now I know the reverse is called a 'Quintina'. teacher.gif

Daniel, I am particularly fond of this one:

Grass

like the days of man
till hot wind passes over….
their place acknowledges them no more;

ne'er forgotten in our memories.

Daniel & Cleo,

I loved the "simoley" quinite, Daniel and Cleo, your's certainly was excellent. Here's another of mine (and okay, okay --- I'll center it ~smile~:

Distorted Reflections

Lives
are often
the sad reflections…
like the fun house distortions
mirroring lies many paid to see.
