I'm using Navy right now myself - a very calming color scheme for me.

I currently have Mocha as the default skin. I like that we can change the skin on any page (just don't flip it while in the middle of a post).

Working on the Site Map - can't believe it's almost 7 pm - WOW! Time flies!

Why Hello Don and thanks for your response. Have you tried Navy yet? I like the colors, just not sure about the animated graphics - it would be fun to hear your grandchild's reaction to them.

I didn't delete any of the skins from the test site and in fact, I added another one called Winter. There should be something to please everyone I hope.

I have not tried anything beyond defaults, which speaks highly of programmers/organizers.

Animated graphics??? Five-1/2 year old grandson Ethan would be elated. He already is please with animated smilies.

An excellent selection of skins

On a quick examination I like Northstar-violet, Desert, Abstract, Lemon, XP and Winter. I am currently using winter.

I have made a few edits the NAVY skin (with permission from PMarch) today as follows;

• The category and forum images have been changed from animated ships, wheels and anchors to mosaic tiles (in different colors).
  
• The logo background color has been changed from its black background to a blue one to match the font color I added for MOSAIC MUSINGS.
  
• The pip image has been changed from a star to a paintbrush.
  
• The Navy skin has been renamed to "Mosaic" in the skin selector list.
  
• The board default skin has been changed from Mocha to Mosaic.

What do you think of the changes?

Hi Cleo,

without experimenting I am very happy with the default replacement for Mocha. With people dabbling in choices I've encountered text and background combinations that essentially defy reading. My decision is not to comment on them.

Thank you! I love the color schemes of that Navy skin, so I sent a message along to the designer and he kindly granted me permission to edit it as I wish.

I wanted to maintain 'green' to match our home pages, and even though this skin is a different shade of green, I am impressed with it. I even like the logo design.

Yes, regarding your second comment: this is why I have NOT installed the hack to allow font selections in your profiles as each skin has its own default colors and they become so hard to read when you use different skins as I do.

The option is there should I get enough interest.

Hope to post something today as I've been fiddling all day with admin work.

I have been dropping by the poetry boards to keep a head above the waves, but today I have spent hours reformating lots of personal essays into manuscript format. Gad, I found one describing my first heart operation with 13500 words. The longest I've done without publishing is 15000 words. Yours truely gabs a lot.

Ahhh - I am using WINTER tonight and it too is very 'warm' and soothing to the eyes after a very long day at work today.

I love the loose contrast of the blue and the purple on this skin too.

I think the Mosaic is better than Mocha as the default but I prefer the violet shades of Northstar Violet. I did like Violet steel but when people change the font colour it is much to hard to read what's written, so I've given up on it.

Today, I am using Winter - the warmth of the blue shades is soothing to my eye as is the green shades of our new board default, Mosaic. I also like Northstar Violet too.

Yes, one of the things about our mix of light and dark skin themes is precisely what you mention - font color. WHen one uses the board default, it looks good on every skin BUT we like color and what appeals to us in our skin of choice just might be too hard to read on other skins. The good news is, one can just change the skin or highlight the text to stay in your skin - that sounds funny; like a new ad:

Since we have to spend the next few hours re-installing hacks and other coding tidbits skin by skin, I have decided to delete the skins that appear not to be used. I checked the active members' defaults and also this thread and the ones that I deleted are:

1. Abstract
2. Hendrix
3. Runescape
4. Silver-Orange v2

Sorry if you had been using any of the ones above. Is there another skin you fancy if that is the case?

In addition to the above 4 mentioned, I also deleted Vista and Listed as we have problems with the skin coding on 2.1.6.

Hi all.

I've just made some minor adjustments to three black skins:

1. Star Wars: Galactic Empire
2. Star Trek: The Borg
3. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

I've changed the "rows" and "posts" settings from black to (in order by skin listed above):

1. blue
2. green
3. gray

to better match the forum headers in each skin and I find them MUCH EASIER to read now.

These changes I made also allow you to now see the post separators when making a reply as well.

What do you think of these changes?

Subblack is quite interesting but as with the other dark skins there is the problem with font colours on a dark background. I have however seen this skin used on another site and somehow the board admin has managed to make the typing and avatar areas an off white colour so that the font colours used on light skins are easy to read on dark skins.

I too, just made a change since you posted this reply to SubBlack. While I have kept the actual posting screen and smilie table black with the soft yellow font, I have changed the topic display (named as post2 and post1) from dark gray and black to a soft yellow. I also had to changethe previous soft yellow font to a dark gray now.

What do you think of this first edit?

It looks a bit better though the posting area is a touch too yellow for my taste and it might soften the whole look if you changed the black to a dark grey. Just a thought (I'm being fussy). The reply
boxes also need to be changed as the previous posts are now illegible unless highlighted.

This is the problem - when I change the reply boxes it also changes other parts of the board that I do NOT want to change.

I might have to put it back.

I've made several changes to the SubBlack skin now to make it easier to read and post.

• The post text box and smilie table backgrounds have been changed from black to dark gray.
  
• The reply posts have been changed to a dark gray - the same change was applied to the forum category/rows.
  
• The post1 and post 2 view colors have been changed to a lighter gray.
  
• The font color is the same - soft yellow.

I think that is all. What do you think?

I have also made a slight change in the BlueCharcoal skin - I have changed the 'quote' box color from black to the same blue as the board background in that skin. I think it's a much more complimentary change on the eye.

I'll be on the lookout for new skins, but right now, nothing new is out there for the taking.
